The operator announced on the 14th of March that its Board of Directors approved the name shift to Equinor in a strategy to turn the Norwegian oil company into a global, broad-based energy company. The name change will be proposed at the General Shareholders' Meeting to be held on May 15th.
Equinor comes from the combination of the radical "equi" - from Latin: equal - and "nor", which refers to the Norwegian origin.
In Brazil the company operates the Peregrino field, its largest production project outside Norway. Other recent projects include the BM-S-8 exploratory block in the Santos Basin pre-salt and the company's joining Roncador project, where it bought 25% stake from Petrobras.
