Complete removal of the entire subsea system may result in extremely high costs, especially in deep and ultradeep fields. With this is mind, the Post-Graduation and Engineering Research Institute from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (COPPE/UFRJ) has conducted a cycle of thematic workshops on decommissioning as an integral part of their R&D project – Support for Decision on Decommissioning Projects of Subsea Oil and Gas Production Systems.
The objective of the workshops with interested stakeholders involved in the oil and gas production chain was to systematically listen to the participants and give them the opportunity to express their doubts, uncertainties, concerns, priorities and prior knowledge on the decommissioning subject, in order to use the acquired data on the composition of the information base that will feed the decision-making support tool being developed by the researchers.
The listening round ended early in August and the result of this project will later be presented in another workshop, with no fixed date yet. As one of the stakeholders, Enviros had the chance to interact with the whole decommissioning chain and to give its contribution, especially concerning the environmental issues of the activity.
On the meanwhile we also wait for ANP’s resolution revision which publication is being anxiously expected, as its promise is the attempt to achieve a more integrated approach between the different regulatory agencies. Let’s hope for the best.
